Mario Fiori

São Paulo, Brazil, 1908-1985

Mario Fiori, a son of Italian immigrants, was linked to the world of arts since a very young age, especially a great admirer of operas.

He worked as a tailor, which he had learned from his father, Alfredo Fiori, until the beginning of the 1930’s Revolution, when he became a male nurse to assist in the medical and social assistance services of the time. At the same time, he was a merchant and owned  a store of artistic products and materials.

Mario, who had always been very interested in everything related to artistic expression in the city of São Paulo, saw photography as an accessible and modern tool of expression at the time, with the potential to meet his promptings for experimentation. Following an indication by José Yalenti, one of the founders of Foto Cine Clube  Bandeirante, he joined the club in September of 1948 where he had an intensive production until the 60’s. He was contemporary of important names, such as Eduardo Salvatore, Marcel Giró, Gertrudes Altschul, German Lorca.

His photographs have been included in the collection of Itaú Cultural and Masp – Museu de Arte de São Paulo.
